The idea behind Wikiaudio is to be a reliable user created database of information pertaining to the art and science of anything audio or sound related. What differentiates Wikiaudio from Wikipedia is a niche focus on sound, audio and the inclusion of user created tutorials.

WikiAudio has been jump-started mostly with content aggregated from Wikipedia but we hope to see it grow into original content. We envision eventually having a strong enough community to begin a process called "stable versions" which are articles that are verified rigorously and non editable but still exist side-by-side a publicly editable version. Eventually the founders envision the project taking on many of the characteristics of the more refined Citizendium project, but this is a long term goal however.

WikiAudio was created by William Turner and cofounded by Lathan Hodge and launched May of 2008. The project was initially a bit of a "loose experiment" to see if there would be interest in such a project. It has since been relaunched for technical reasons as well as to reflect the learning experience of the founders.
